Each cell shows how many segments were found. Numbers in cells = segment count.

How Grid Scanning Works
The visible map area is divided into a grid of cells. Each cell makes one Strava API call that returns the top 10 most popular segments in that area.
3x3 = 9 calls Fast, top segments only
6x6 = 36 calls Good balance
Higher density = smaller cells = finds more obscure segments that only appear when you zoom in close. But uses more API calls (limit: 100 per 15 minutes, 1000 per day).
At maximum (36x36 = 1,296 cells), this covers the entire visible area at very fine resolution. Note this will exhaust your daily API limit.
Cells already scanned are cached and skipped for free. Re-scanning the same area costs nothing extra.
Competitiveness Score
Measures how many unique athletes have attempted the segments where this rider holds the KOM. Holding #1 out of 5,000 riders is much harder than #1 out of 20.
The score is the average number of competitors across all held segments.
■Uncontested — fewer than 50 athletes
■Moderate — 50 to 500 athletes
■Competitive — 500 to 2,000 athletes
■Elite — 2,000 to 5,000 athletes
■Legendary — 5,000+ athletes
Min KOMs / QOMs Filter
Controls how many KOMs (or QOMs) a rider needs to earn their own territory on the map.
Riders below this threshold have their segments absorbed into the nearest qualifying rider's territory. This cleans up the map by merging tiny one-segment territories into their neighbors.
Low value (2-3): More riders shown, fragmented map. High value (10+): Fewer riders, cleaner territories dominated by top KOM holders.
Import My Efforts
This imports your personal segment times from your recent Strava rides. Once imported, KOMpire can show you how close you are to each KOM.
For example: "KOM is 2:34, your best is 2:41 — you need just 7 seconds faster to claim it."
This uses your Strava API budget (1 call per activity). Only needs to be done once — your efforts are saved for future visits.

Welcome to KOMpire
This map shows KOM territories. Each colored region belongs to whoever holds the most Strava segment records (KOMs) in that area.
⚔
Claim Your Territory
Connect with Strava to see YOUR name on the map. Every KOM you hold expands your territory. The more KOMs you grab in one area, the more land you control.
⚡
Scan for Segments
Click "Start Auto-scan" after connecting to discover segments in your area. The more segments found, the richer the territory map becomes for everyone.
